Liverpool prioritising Xavi Simons as Luis Diaz replacement

Liverpool have identified RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons as a priority target as they prepare for the potential departure of Luis Diaz.

Liverpool might have won the Premier League title in Arne Slot’s first season in charge but they are set to undergo some major changes in the summer. They are looking for more quality in the final third and have their eyes on Xavi Simons.

According to a report from Fichajes, the Reds have the RB Leipzig star as a priority target for the summer. With Luis Diaz’s future up in the air, the Merseyside club consider Simons to be just the perfect replacement for the Colombian international.

While things didn’t work out for Simons at PSG, the move to RB Leipzig has done wonders for him. He joined the German outfit on a two-year-long loan deal back in 2023. On the back of his impressive performances, Leipzig made the move permanent at the start of the year.

It has only been around six months since his move became permanent but there are already talks about him leaving the club in the summer. Simons seems ready for a bigger challenge and there is no shortage of interest in him.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has featured in a total of 33 matches this term and has contributed towards 19 goals (11 goals, 8 assists). He can certainly be an asset to any team that he joins. While multiple clubs want him, Liverpool have emerged as a potential destination for the youngster.

Liverpool are pushing hard to sign Simons

The Reds are keen on adding more firepower to their attack and they are quite interested in Simons as he can solve quite a few of their problems. Not only can he feature as a number ten, he can be equally effective on the left flank.

The Merseyside club have him as a priority target for the summer as there is uncertainty around Luis Diaz’s future. The Colombian has been linked with a move to Barcelona. The Catalan club’s sporting director, Deco, is a massive admirer and is pushing to sign him.

Diaz has his head turned by interest from the Spanish giants and if he ends up leaving, Liverpool would want to replace him with the best possible option. While the Reds have their eyes on Florian Wirtz as well, signing him won’t be that easy.

As a result, Simons seems to be a much more realistic option for them. The 22-year-old is reportedly willing to enter into talks with the Merseyside club, which is certainly a boost for them. While he is currently valued at around £60 million, Leipzig could demand a higher fee as there is no shortage of interest in him.
