Newcastle United competing with Liverpool, Manchester United for Goncalo Inacio

Newcastle United have added Goncalo Inacio to their list of centre-back targets, with Liverpool and Manchester United also keen.

According to O Jogo via Sport Witness, Goncalo Inacio is attracting considerable interest from Premier League teams, as Newcastle United are the latest in the race. Manchester United and Liverpool have been credited with an interest earlier, with the Sporting CP star likely to seek a bigger challenge in the summer.

Goncalo Inacio has been a crucial part of this Sporting CP side in the last two seasons, helping them conquer the Portuguese league. Much like some of their top performers, the Portuguese defender is likely to seek a bigger challenge as his club will brace for offers.

He has a €60 million release clause written in his contract, with Sporting CP, expected to accept a lower offer. Yet, they will be a difficult prospect to negotiate with, as a host of Premier League sides are interested. Manchester United had admired the player and could be an option depending on how Lisandro Martinez’s recovery continues.

Ruben Amorim might be the driving force at Old Trafford to get the defender, although the €60 million-rated Portuguese international’s price tag may prove difficult for them to match. Should there be funds after finishing their priority business, there’s always a chance for Manchester United to make a move for the Sporting CP star.

Meanwhile, Liverpool were linked with Inacio last summer, but they ended that window without any considerable signings. Ahead of the new season, Arne Slot could look for a new centre-back as cover for their first-choice names, as the likes of Jorrel Hato and Marc Guehi are mentioned as targets.

Newcastle United enters Goncalo Inacio race

Newcastle United are the latest to join Manchester United and Chelsea in the race for Inacio. They are seeking defensive cover, maybe not on the left-hand side of the central defence, however, they may not turn their heads should the €60 million-rated Portuguese international become available.

Inacio is keen to explore life outside Sporting CP, as he has ambitions to stake an important spot in the Portuguese national team. Hence, a big move, much like many of his compatriots would be something on the defender’s mind, as he will hope to secure a huge transfer in the current window itself.
