Arsenal must improve their offer to seal Cristhian Mosquera deal

Arsenal will reportedly look to sign 21-year-old Spanish defensive prospect Cristhian Mosquera from La Liga club Valencia in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Super Deporte, as revealed by Sport Witness, Cristhian Mosquera is the subject of interest from Arsenal. The Gunners are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a centre-back in the summer transfer window. So, the 21-year-old Valencia centre-back has emerged as a target for the North London outfit.

The report has suggested that “everything points to the player leaving for Arsenal”. However, the deal to sign Mosquera could collapse if the Premier League giants do not improve their most recent bid, even though the Spaniard has turned down a renewal offer from Valencia.

Cristhian Mosquera and his recent rise

Cristhian Mosquera has hit the ground running since breaking into the first-team squad at Valencia CF. The Alicante native made his senior bow at the Mestalla midway through the 2021/22 season but enjoyed his breakthrough in the 2023/24 campaign. While the last two terms have seen Los Che struggle in La Liga, the highly-rated centre-back has been a standout performer.

The Spanish defensive prospect has already turned out nearly 100 times thus far for Valencia while chipping in with one goal. In addition, he achieved success in international football last year by winning the gold medal with Spain at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Meanwhile, Mosquera’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Arsenal.

London calling?

Arsenal’s interest in Cristhian Mosquera is somewhat perplexing yet understandable. Mikel Arteta has two world-class centre-backs in his squad, with Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba playing their part in the North London club’s brilliant defensive record in recent seasons. However, Saliba is constantly a target for European bigwigs, compelling Arsenal to seek a potential replacement.

So, Mosquera has emerged as a viable target for Arsenal. However, the Gunners have failed with a bid to sign the 21-year-old Spaniard, with Valencia adamant that the youngster will only leave for the right price. Meanwhile, personal terms are not an issue with Mosquera keen on joining Arsenal in the summer transfer window. Recent reports have claimed that they will return with an improved offer soon.

Meanwhile, the report has claimed that Super Deporte is “everything points to the player leaving for Arsenal”. So, while the deal could collapse if the Gunners “don’t up their offer”, the Spanish defender’s desire to move to the Emirates should see the transfer through.
