According to a report from Fabrizio Romano, Bournemouth are keen on acquiring the services of Djordje Petrovic as they look for a new shot-stopper ahead of next season. The Cherries believe he could be an ideal fit for their project, and they have already submitted an opening bid for the Serbian international.
Petrovic made a name for himself while playing for New England Revolution. His impressive performances caught the attention of Chelsea, who secured his services in the summer of 2023. In his debut campaign at Stamford Bridge, he was involved in a total of 31 matches and managed to keep a clean sheet on seven occasions.
While he did a decent job, the 25-year-old failed to cement his spot in the team. Enzo Maresca, who took charge of the club last summer, didn’t have Petrovic as an important part of his plans. As a result, they ended up sending him out on loan to sister club RC Strasbourg for the 2024/25 season.
He certainly did an impressive job in Ligue 1 as he kept 10 clean sheets in his 31 outings and conceded just 38 goals. Despite his impressive performances, he is unlikely to have an important role under Maresca.
While his contract with the London club runs until 2030, the Blues could sanction his departure as long as they receive the right offer. Sunderland are one of the clubs that are interested in the Serbian goalkeeper. While the Black Cats did make an approach last week, they were never really close to securing his services.
Bournemouth have now emerged as a potential destination for the 25-year-old. Kepa Arrizabalaga was the Cherries’ preferred choice in goal last season. While they would have loved to re-sign him from Chelsea, he has secured a permanent move to Arsenal.
As a result, Andoni Iraola’s team, which secured a 9th-placed finish in the Premier League last season, are now looking for a new goalkeeper. They have identified Petrovic as an ideal candidate to be their number one going forward.
They have already held talks with the Serbian goalkeeper, who is ready to make the move to Vitality Stadium. Bournemouth have submitted an initial offer to Chelsea and are now in negotiations with the Blues, hopeful of reaching an agreement in the coming days.
