Tottenham agree deal to sign Mohammed Kudus

Tottenham have agreed a £55 million deal with West Ham United for Mohammed Kudus, with Daniel Levy effectively negotiating an attractive fee

According to Graeme Bailey, Tottenham have secured an agreement with West Ham United for key attacker Mohammed Kudus. The two clubs have been negotiating a fee for the Ghanaian attacker, as Daniel Levy has played a key role in getting the 24-year-old for much less than his original asking price.

Tottenham have got their man in Mohammed Kudus after they found an agreement with West Ham United over the fee. Spurs will pay £55 million for the Ghanaian attacker, something Graeme Bailey claimed was at least £10 million fewer than their original asking price.

The chase was anything but straightforward as Spurs had their own set of challenges ahead, starting with the mammoth £85 million release clause in Kudus’ West Ham contract. While the Hammers were open to selling him for a significantly lower fee, Bailey’s suggestion still places his original asking price at £65 million.

Tottenham’s work in the background with the players’ camp probably was the biggest factor in the chase tilting towards them. Kudus had snubbed an approach from Bayern Munich, as he made it clear he wanted to join Tottenham and was uninterested in negotiating with other suitors.

That included Chelsea, as the Blues were probably in the hunt for the 24-year-old West Ham utility man well before Tottenham entered the frame. Hence, the north Londoners’ work with the player’s camp has played a crucial role in the race, as Kudus will soon complete his medicals and other formalities to sign for Tottenham.

Daniel Levy played a key role in negotiations

Daniel Levy is known for being a tough negotiator, as Bailey states, the Tottenham supremo managed to get Kudus for at least £10 million less than West Ham’s original asking price. The deal places the Ghanaian as a cheaper transfer deal than the likes of Matheus Cunha, Anthony Elanga, and, as things stand, even Bryan Mbeumo.

As for Spurs, this is a major statement of intent to kickstart the new reign under Thomas Frank. There are a few more additions planned ahead of the new season, but the coup of Kudus will go down as one of the most important signs in the club’s history.
