Aston Villa uninterested in selling John McGinn amid Everton links

Everton could suffer a blow in pursuit of Aston Villa fan favourite John McGinn, whom Unai Emery rates as one of the team’s main leaders.

According to TBR, Everton’s chances of signing John McGinn are slim as Unai Emery considers the Scottish midfielder key to his plans. The Aston Villa skipper is viewed as one of the influential leaders in the squad, as the Birmingham-based club are uninterested in considering offers this summer.

John McGinn is the sort of player that managers adore for what they brings to the pitch. In the case of the Scotland international, he has been instrumental in Aston Villa’s progression over the last many years, and particularly under Unai Emery.

Hence, Aston Villa are not even remotely considering the prospect of selling the captain amid rival interest this summer. Emery views him as a big leader of this team, and would not want to lose him at any cost in this window, as Everton are showing interest.

Everton have lost Abdoulaye Doucoure after his contract expired in the summer. While they have signed the likes of Carlos Alcaraz on a permanent deal and extended Idrissa Gueye’s contract, David Moyes wants more of a presence in his midfield.

There are links to Sean Longstaff, as Leeds United are currently seen as the front runners for the Newcastle United midfielder. Hence, Everton’s interest in McGinn will not come as a surprise; however, this chase might be cut short due to Aston Villa’s stance on the fan favourite.

Aston Villa uninterested in John McGinn sale

Aston Villa are not planning on selling their captain despite the Scottish midfielder entering the final two years of his contract at Villa Park. There might be the case of a new contract on the horizon for the midfielder, although should Everton make a compelling offer, the current stance might shift. Either way, Everton have other names on their list, including Benfica’s Florentino Luis.

Juventus star Douglas Luiz is another option that they are considering, with the Brazilian set to leave the Turin giants after an unproductive season. However, the chances of him arriving at Everton might be remote, as Moyes will want to assess the market for other alternatives, altough they might still make an effort for McGinn.
