Leeds United fail with offer for Sean Longstaff

Leeds United have failed with their latest offer for Sean Longstaff as their £12 million all-inclusive bid does was deemed short by Newcastle United.

According to The Yorkshire Evening Post, Newcastle United have rejected Leeds United’s latest proposal for midfield target Sean Longstaff. The most recent offer consisted of £10 million in fixed payment with £2 million in add-ons, as there are fears the Yorkshire side might move on to other targets.

Sean Longstaff is a player very much liked by Eddie Howe. However, the homegrown Newcastle United star is in the final year of his deal, which does present a tempting opportunity for the club to cash in and register the proceeds to improve their standing with PSR.

Longstaff was unhappy with the limited game time in the second part of the season, and that might be the case in the upcoming campaign. He’s unlikely to force his way through into a midfield setup comprising Joelinton, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes, meaning he could search for a new opportunity to further his career.

Leeds United are interested in the midfielder, as the newly promoted side are searching for players with plenty of Premier League experience. The homegrown Newcastle United star certainly fits that bill, but Daniel Farke’s side are finding it extremely challenging to convince the Magpies to sell.

Leeds United have seen their latest offer rejected by Newcastle United, which consisted of £10 million in fixed fees and a further £2 million in add-ons. The demands of the Magpies are still unclear, although their push for a higher fee could see Leeds United back away and move on to other targets.

Leeds United could search for Sean Longstaff alternatives

Should Leeds United move on from the homegrown Newcastle United star, the midfielder does have other options. Farke’s side are also lining up alternatives, with Magpies teammate Joe Willock one of the options they might consider.

Hoffenheim midfielder Anton Stach is another target for Leeds United, and while they value Longstaff’s experience in the top flight, they may have reached their limit for the Magpies midfielder. Hence, there’s every chance that Leeds begin pursuits of alternatives, although they might give the Longstaff chase another go before pivoting.
