Tottenham hoping to sign Jhon Arias

Thomas Frank’s Tottenham Hotspur are plotting a raid on Club World Cup semi-finalists Fluminense for Jhon Arias’ signature.

According to a report from Fichajes, Tottenham are keen on acquiring the services of Jhon Arias, who was a standout performer for Fluminense at the ongoing Club World Cup. Spurs are slowly making moves to bring him to North London ahead of next season.

Arias made the move to Brazil back in 2021 and has since established himself as a mainstay at the Rio de Janeiro-based club. He has 17 goal contributions in the ongoing campaign for Fluminense, including two in the Club World Cup, where they reached the semi-finals before being knocked out by Chelsea.

His performances at the global event haven’t gone unnoticed as he now finds himself on the wishlist of multiple top clubs in the Premier League. Tottenham Hotspur are one of the clubs that are keen on signing him. They are believed to be the best positioned to secure his services.

Spurs making moves to sign Arias

The North London club seek more quality and depth on the flanks, and they consider Arias an ideal fit for their system. While he prefers playing on the right flank, he can feature anywhere across the frontline, which could be a massive boost for Thomas Frank’s team.

Spurs’ sporting directors have been gathering positive reports about the Colombian international for weeks, and they seem to be preparing a proposal which could convince the Brazilian club as well as the player. While Arias still has three years left on his deal, Fluminense might struggle to keep hold of their star forward amidst interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe.

People close to the player have made it well known that he is interested in making the leap to Europe, and if an offer from England arrives, he will certainly be tempted. At the age of 27, Arias is set to enter his prime, and it could be the best possible time for him to leave South America and test himself at the highest level.

His pace, attacking qualities, and finishing ability could certainly benefit Spurs, but they might have to shell out close to €25 million to secure his services. While talks between the two clubs are ongoing, they are not yet in the final stages. However, progress is being made, and a deal could well be reached soon.
