Everton keen on signing Mark Travers from Bournemouth

Everton will reportedly look to sign 26-year-old Republic of Ireland international Mark Travers from Bournemouth in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Sky Sports journalists Mark McAdam and Vinny O’Connor, Mark Travers is the subject of interest from Everton. The Toffees are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window after parting ways with Joao Virginia and Asmir Begovic as free agents. So, the 26-year-old Bournemouth shot-stopper has emerged as a target for the Merseyside outfit.

Who is Mark Travers?

Mark Travers has endured a topsy-turvy ride since breaking into the first-team squad at AFC Bournemouth. A native of Maynooth, the Irishman spent most of his formative years in his homeland and passed through the academies at Cherry Orchard FC and Rovers Academy before graduating from the Cherries’ youth division.

The 26-year-old has had to bide his time after turning professional, embarking on loan spells with Weymouth FC, Swindon Town, Stoke City, and Middlesbrough in the last eight years. However, he has also enjoyed some memorable phases with the Bournemouth first team, serving the Cherries as the first-choice goalkeeper in a few periods.

However, Travers has been a backup goalkeeper for most of his spell with Bournemouth, and he will unlikely become the first-choice goalkeeper in the 2025/26 season amid the Cherries’ links with several goalkeepers, including Aaron Ramsdale. Meanwhile, the Republic of Ireland international has a market, with Everton among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.

Move across the Premier League on the cards?

Everton’s interest in Mark Travers is understandable. The Toffees are scouring the market for a goalkeeper after parting ways with Asmir Begovic and Joao Virginia as a free agent. So, Jordan Pickford is the only recognised goalkeeper in David Moyes’s squad heading into the summer transfer window.

Several goalkeepers, including John Victor, have emerged on Everton’s radar, with Travers also a viable target. The 26-year-old Irishman has been among the most reliable backup stoppers in the Premier League for some time, and he can be Pickford’s deputy in the 2025/26 season.

So, while Travers has been with Bournemouth for nearly a decade, his long association with the Premier League club may end in the summer transfer window. It will be interesting to see if Everton can convince the Republic of Ireland international to move to the Merseyside club in the coming weeks.
