Leroy Sane prepared to take pay cut to remain at Bayern Munich

Leroy Sane is reportedly ready to snub Arsenal, Aston Villa, and Tottenham Hotspur by taking a pay cut to stay at Bayern Munich beyond the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Arsenal, Aston Villa, and Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing Leroy Sane in a Bosman move in the summer transfer window. However, the German international wants to remain at Bayern Munich and is ready to take a pay cut to stay at the Allianz Arena.

Leroy Sane and his Bayern Munich journey

Leroy Sane has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Bayern Munich from Manchester City in a big-money deal in July 2020. While the experienced winger has shown flashes of brilliance in the last half a decade, he has not been consistent enough to be an undisputed first-choice starter for the Bavarian giants.

That has also been the case in the 2024/25 season, with the 29-year-old amassing 13 goals and six assists in 44 appearances across all competitions. However, Sane’s long-term future has been uncertain as he has entered the final few months of his contract with Bayern Munich. The situation has piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Arsenal, Aston Villa, and Tottenham Hotspur.

A man in demand

The German international has been on Arsenal’s radar for a long time. The continued interest is understandable, considering the Gunners have been over-dependent on Bukayo Saka in the final third. So, the Bayern Munich attacker has emerged as a viable target for Arsenal, and the North London outfit should have no qualms about matching his current €15 million-a-year wages.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa’s interest in Leroy Sane makes sense. Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio face an uncertain future at Villa Park, and neither attacker might complete a permanent move to the West Midlands club in the summer transfer window. So, Sane is an option worth considering for Aston Villa.

As for Tottenham Hotspur, Son Heung-min has started showing signs of age catching up with him. In addition, Richarlison will likely depart from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the summer transfer window. So, Sane is a viable target for the North London outfit. However, the former Manchester City winger is ready to remain at Bayern Munich on lower wages.

While the German international currently pockets €15 million-a-year wages, he is ready to take him an annual salary of €12 million. However, with Bayern Munich only offering home a pay package worth €10 million per season, a gap remains between the two parties.
