Tottenham Hotspur in the race for Mathias Olivera

Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race for the signature of the highly sought-after Napoli full-back Mathias Olivera.

According to Eduardo Burgos, Mathias Olivera could end up parting ways with Napoli this summer amidst interest from some top clubs. Tottenham Hotspur are one of the clubs that are keen on signing him. They have entered the race for his services and are willing to battle multiple top clubs to sign the Uruguayan full-back.

After making a name for himself at Getafe, Olivera made the move to Napoli in the summer of 2022 and he hasn’t looked back since. The 27-year-old has established himself as a key figure in their team and has been putting in consistent performances week in and week out.

He has featured in 30 league games this season and has contributed towards three goals. The South American defender signed a new contract a few months ago, which runs until the summer of 2030. Despite that, he continues to be linked with a move away from the club.

Tottenham enter race for Olivera’s signature

Tottenham are one of the clubs that have emerged as a potential destination for the former Getafe star. The North London club want to add more quality and depth to their backline. They want to bring in a new left-back and Olivera seems to be quite high on their wishlist.

The 27-year-old prefers playing as a wing-back or a full-back but since he can even feature in the heart of the defence, he could be a great addition to Spurs’ team. While Tottenham are working on a potential transfer, they are not the only clubs that are keen on his signature. Even Atletico Madrid and Brighton have been following his situation for a while.

Both clubs are looking to strengthen the left side of their defence and view Olivera as an ideal fit for their project. They could consider making a move in the summer if he becomes available. For now, Burgos has suggested that the Uruguayan might seek a move away from the Naples-based club, and following his new deal, Napoli could demand a fee of around €40 million.

While Spurs can certainly beat the competition to his signature, it will be interesting to see if they would be willing to meet the Italian club’s asking price.
