Jeremie Frimpong agrees personal terms in principle with Liverpool, deal could be sealed by the weekend

Liverpool have an agreement on personal terms with Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong, the deal could be sealed by the weekend.

According to a report from TBR, Liverpool are closing in on the signature of Jeremie Frimpong. The Reds could finalise the deal to sign the Bayer Leverkusen star by the weekend as they have already agreed personal terms with the Dutch international.

While things didn’t go according to plan for Frimpong at Manchester City, he revived his career at Celtic before making the move to the German club at the start of 2021. The Dutch full-back has gone on to establish himself as a key figure in the team and has been a consistent performer for them over the last few seasons.

He played a massive part in their title-winning campaign last season and has been equally effective this time around as well. In his 48 outings this season, the 24-year-old full-back has scored five goals and bagged 12 assists.

He is widely regarded as one of the best wing-backs in the world and his performances have resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe. Liverpool have emerged as a potential destination for the Dutch international. The Reds are in the market for a new right-sided full-back as Trent Alexander-Arnold will be parting ways with the club at the end of the season.

He is set to join Real Madrid on a free transfer and Arne Slot’s team considers Frimpong as an ideal fit for their project. While Frimpong has been used as a wing-back by Xabi Alonso, the Dutch star is capable enough to play as a full-back as well as a winger.

His versatility can certainly give the Liverpool boss a lot of tactical flexibility. With Conor Bradley also ready to fight for a place in the XI, signing Frimpong can certainly ensure they are well covered on the right flank despite Alexander-Arnold’s departure.

Liverpool to complete Frimpong signing

While the 24-year-old still has three years left on his deal at Leverkusen, there is a £30 million release clause in his contract which makes it easier for Liverpool. The Reds have already decided to trigger the clause but they first wanted to reach an agreement on personal terms with the player.

The Merseyside club were in talks with the player’s camp and they have finally reached an agreement in principle on personal terms with Frimpong. Only minor details like agent fees and bonus structures are left to be finalised.

They are not expected to have any problems finalising those details. As a result, they are in talks with Bayer Leverkusen regarding the payment structure of the Dutchman’s £30 million release clause. Both parties are believed to be on the same page and Liverpool are confident that they can get the deal over the line by the weekend.
