Liverpool concerned about Ibrahima Konate future amid emerging links

Arne Slot’s Liverpool have serious concerns about the future of Ibrahima Konate amidst interest from Chelsea and Real Madrid.

According to a report from Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Liverpool could look to cash in on Ibrahima Konate this summer. The Reds are worried about the French defender’s contract situation, and if they fail to tie him down to a new deal, they could look to offload him.

Konate made a name for himself at RB Leipzig and on the back of his impressive rise, Liverpool forked out £35 million to sign him back in 2021. The Frenchman has slowly gone from strength to strength, establishing himself as one of their go-to player at the back.

While Arne Slot started the season with Jarell Quansah alongside Virgil van Dijk, he brought on Konate to replace Quansah midway through the opening fixture, and the French international has been a mainstay in his strongest XI ever since.

Konate has been involved in a total of 41 matches across competitions, and he has contributed towards four goals. The former RB Leipzig defender has been a rock at the back and he has certainly played a massive part in all the success they have had.

While Slot is quite happy with the 25-year-old’s performances, his future has become a big concern for people at the Merseyside club. Ibrahima Konate will only have a year left on his deal in the summer, and contract renewal talks haven’t gone according to plan.

Chelsea and Real Madrid keen on Konate

The French centre-back is stalling renewal talks, and the Reds are worried about how things are panning out. With Trent Alexander-Arnold set to become a free agent, Liverpool do not want to suffer the same fate with Ibrahima Konate, who is on the wishlist of Real Madrid as well as Chelsea.

The team in white admire the young centre-back, and they do need to freshen things up at the back as the majority of their centre-backs are over 30. Meanwhile, Chelsea enquired about the former RB Leipzig star a few months back. The Blues seem to have spotted an opportunity to sign a top Premier League performer from a rival club.

While both clubs would love a Bosman move, they could even try to sign him this summer as Liverpool are considering cashing in on Ibrahima Konate. The Reds will push harder to secure a new deal. But if things do not go their way, they could let him leave for the right price.

The Merseyside outfit will certainly look for much more than the £35 million they had invested to sign him. However, with just 12 months left on his deal, Konate is the one who has total control over his future.
