According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool are keen on acquiring the services of Malick Fofana and have already enquired about the availability of the Lyon attacking sensation. The Reds are looking to prepare for life without Luis Diaz, who has been linked with a move to Barcelona and is eager to join the Spanish giants.
Diaz has been a part of the Liverpool setup since joining them from FC Porto at the start of 2022. The Colombian international has only gone from strength to strength over the years, and he has been a key figure in the team under Arne Slot.
The 28-year-old has been involved in a total of 49 matches this season and has contributed towards 25 goals (17 goals, 8 assists). Slot is quite happy with his performances and would love to have him in his squad going into the next season.
But with Diaz’s contract running until 2027 and no progress on a potential new deal, his continuity can’t be guaranteed. Barcelona are very keen on signing the Colombian international. Their sporting director, Deco, is a massive admirer of Diaz and is pushing to bring him to the club.
The former FC Porto star is tempted by the opportunity to play for the Catalan giants. As a result, the Reds have started preparing for a situation where he ends up leaving. Liverpool have already identified Malick Fofana as an ideal replacement, and they have started working towards signing him.
The 20-year-old has not looked back since joining Lyon from KAA Gent at the start of 2024. In his first full season at the French club, Fofana has 11 goals and six assists in his 41 outings. He can feature on either flank and certainly has the potential to be a special player.
The Reds have already enquired about the player, and they have also spoken to the Ligue 1 club. While the youngster is valued at around €20 million, Lyon want €30 million for his signature as they are well aware of the situation related to Diaz. The Reds would ideally want between €70 and €80 million for the Colombian winger. But the Catalan giants want to do a deal around the €60 million mark.
