Everton face uphill task to land Angel Gomes

Everton will reportedly look to beat Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United to 24-year-old LOSC Lille midfielder Angel Gomes in a Bosman move in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Football Insider, Angel Gomes is the subject of interest from Everton. The Toffees are combing the market for a midfielder heading into the summer transfer window and have set their sights on the LOSC Lille ace. However, they face a tall order to beat Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United to the English international.

Angel Gomes has come leaps and bounds since joining LOSC Lille in a Bosman move in August 2020 after leaving Manchester United as a free agent. The Englishman could not establish a foothold in the first-team squad at Manchester United but has made his mark during his spell in Ligue 1.

However, the 24-year-old has seen his game time dwindle this season due to his contract situation. With Gomes deciding to leave LOSC Lille as a free agent, he managed only 1,069 minutes of game time across 20 appearances in all competitions. Meanwhile, the player’s situation has piqued the attention of several Premier League clubs, including Everton, Tottenham Hotspur, and West Ham United.

Everton can do with a player like the English international amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term futures of Abdoulaye Doucoure and Idrissa Gueye. The former will likely leave the Merseyside club as a free agent. So, the LOSC Lille midfielder has emerged as a viable target for Everton.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Angel Gomes is understandable. The Lilywhites are eager to reinforce their midfield unit amid uncertainties surrounding Yves Bissouma’s long-term future. So, the Englishman has emerged as a target for Tottenham.

As for West Ham, Guido Rodriguez will likely end his stint with the East London club after only one season. In addition, Carlos Soler will not complete a permanent move after his loan deal expires. So, Gomes is an option worth considering for West Ham.
