Everton in transfer tussle to sign Oscar Bobb, Manchester City unlikely to sanction loan exit

Everton are reportedly prepared to wage battle for the signature of Manchester City sensation Oscar Bobb, although City are unlikely to sanction a loan move.

According to a report from Esteemed Kompany, Everton are one of the clubs that are keen on signing Manchester City’s Oscar Bobb. The Norwegian international is on the wishlist of quite a few English clubs. But they won’t find it easy to secure his services as City won’t sanction a temporary exit.

Bobb had an impressive 2023/24 season with the Manchester City first-team as he contributed towards four goals in his 26 outings. Despite getting just over 800 minutes, he managed to impress Pep Guardiola. The 21-year-old was set to have more minutes during the 2024/25 season. But things did not go according to plan as he fractured his leg early in the campaign.

While he is back to full fitness, the Norwegian winger only featured in four first-team games towards the end of the season. He now has his sights set on the Club World Cup as an opportunity to relaunch himself and build momentum ahead of the new season.

Everton would love to sign Oscar Bobb on loan

Despite being out injured for most of the 2024/25 season, there is still a lot of interest in Bobb from across England. Multiple Premier League outfits want to sign the young winger on loan. Everton are one of the clubs that are quite serious about his signature.

David Moyes wants more quality in the final third, and he feels the 21-year-old could significantly bolster their attack. His ability to feature on either flank, as well as a number ten, could give him great tactical flexibility.

While Everton are pushing to secure Oscar Bobb’s services on loan, they will have to battle the likes of Sunderland, Brentford, Bournemouth, and Burnley, who are all keeping a close eye on the youngster’s situation at City.

Manchester City won’t sanction a temporary departure

A loan move away from Manchester could aid Oscar Bobb’s development, but that remains unlikely due to his homegrown status and obvious talent. City are not in the best position when it comes to meeting homegrown player requirements.

With the Tottenham-linked Jack Grealish and Everton-linked John Stones expected to be on the move, they cannot afford to lose another homegrown player. Bobb qualifies as homegrown in both the Champions League and Premier League squads, making him an important part of their overall squad composition. As a result, a temporary departure is unlikely.
