According to Fichajes, Leeds United must overcome the challenge posed by Premier League rivals Wolves and Brentford for attacking midfielder Christantus Uche. The Getafe star is keen to leave the Spanish side as a move to England could be on the cards.
Getafe made a calculated investment in Christantus Uche from Spanish third-tier side AD Cueta. The midfielder has excelled in his first season in the top flight, with a hand in 11 goalsacross all competitions, with 10 of those coming in La Liga.
He has a €25 million release clause attached to his contract, something Getafe are willing to reduce to an extent, though they will want at least €20 million to sell him. Hence, the Spanish side are anticipating a big profit from his sale, although a portion of the proceeds will go to AD Cueta due to a clause in the contract.
There is interest from France and Italy, but the Premier League clubs are currently at the forefront of this transfer. The 22-year-old Nigerian has interest from the likes of Brentford and Wolves, although it is Leeds United who are seen as the front runners here.
There is potentially a three-way battle for the powerful attacking midfielder ahead of the summer, with his physicality and prowess in the boxes seen as a perfect fit for the Premier League. Hence, it remains to be seen where the attacker joins in the summer, with a move to England more likely at this stage.
As per Jose David Palacio on X, Leeds United are leading the chase alongside Brentford, with the newly promoted Premier League side looking to add a new attacking midfielder. Aston Villa’s Emiliano Buendia is a target ahead of the summer, while Southampton’s Mateus Fernandes is also a reported target.
Leeds United needs a presence in that position, as Christantus Uche could provide them with different options in shaping the midfield. He can play deeper, as well as in the box-to-box roles, and influence in the final third. Any move will depend on whether they can pay the required sums to get a deal in place with Getafe.
