Chelsea move to sign Jamie Gittens collapses after third bid

Chelsea have failed in their attempt to sign Borussia Dortmund sensation Jamie Gittens for the Club World Cup.

Chelsea are keen on acquiring the services of Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund this summer. The Blues were looking to sign him just in time for the Club World Cup and they even made multiple efforts to strike a deal with the German club. However, they have failed to sign him in the temporary window ahead of FIFA’s global event.

According to Florian Plettenberg, the London club’s attempt to sign the Dortmund winger has collapsed after the German giants rejected their third bid. With the temporary transfer window now closed, the Blues will have to wait before they can once again try to sign him ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Gittens has only gone from strength to strength since joining Dortmund in the summer of 2020 from Manchester City. He went up the ranks at some pace and got promoted to their first team in 2022. He has gone on to establish himself as a key figure in the team and his performances have attracted a lot of interest.

Chelsea want to re-sign Gittens

While the 20-year-old still has three years left on his deal at the club, he looks set for a move away from the club. Gittens wants to secure a return to the Premier League and his former club, Chelsea have emerged as the most likely destination for the youngster.

The Blues want to re-sign him as they seek more quality on the flanks. With Jadon Sancho returning to his parent club, Joao Felix likely to be sold and Mykhailo Mudryk banned, Enzo Maresca wants more options in the wide areas.

They consider Gittens an ideal fit for their project, which revolves around signing the best young players. The London club have been working on a potential transfer for some time now. But they haven’t been able to get a deal over the line.

Chelsea fail to sign Gittens

Chelsea already have the green light from the player, who is willing to pen a seven-year deal but they haven’t been able to strike a deal with Dortmund. The London club submitted their third offer recently.

They had put forward an offer worth €55 million but it has been immediately rejected by the German outfit. They clearly want more money for the 20-year-old forward and are certainly in a comfortable position with three years left on his contract.

With the third bid rejected, the Blues can no longer sign him for the Club World Cup. The deal has collapsed for now and it will be interesting to see if Chelsea returns for him when the transfer window reopens in a few weeks.
