Crystal Palace move for Ousmane Diomande reaches an impasse

Crystal Palace must raise the bid to sign 21-year-old Ivory Coast international Ousmane Diomande from Sporting CP in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Record, as relayed by Sport Witness, Ousmane Diomande is the subject of interest from Crystal Palace. However, the negotiations between the South London club and Sporting CP have stalled as the Primeira Liga champions want €60 million to sell the highly-rated defender in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, the Ivorian centre-back is also a target for Arsenal and Chelsea.

The rapid rise of Ousmane Diomande

Ousmane Diomande has seen his stock soar since joining Sporting CP from Midtjylland in January 2023. The Ivory Coast international hit the ground running at the Jose Alvalade Stadium, and he has become a mainstay at the back for his club and country in the last two and a half years.

The 21-year-old centre-back has turned out over 100 times thus far for Crystal Palace while chipping in with six goals and two assists. Meanwhile, Diomande’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Premier League outfits, in particular, are keen on signing him, with Arsenal, Chelsea, and Crystal Palace vying for his signature.

London calling?

The Ivorian defensive prospect has been on Arsenal’s radar for a long time. However, it is unclear why the Gunners are still keen on signing Diomande, considering he will unlikely get game time over William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes. Nevertheless, the young defender is a target for Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Chelsea’s interest in Ousmane Diomande makes sense. Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile face an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge, and the West London club will likely cash in on the French defensive duo in the summer transfer window. So, they need a replacement, and the Sporting CP defender has emerged as a target for Chelsea.

As for Crystal Palace, the Eagles have recently intensified their efforts to sign the 21-year-old Ivorian centre-back by preparing a bid worth €40 million to secure his services. With Marc Guehi facing an uncertain future at Selhurst Park, the South London club must sign a replacement. However, Crystal Palace’s negotiations with Sporting CP have stalled.

The Primeira Liga champions want €60 million to consider parting ways with Diomande in the summer transfer window. So, the onus is on Crystal Palace to increase the bid, although it is unclear if Arsenal and Chelsea are ready to launch the offensive to sign the Ivory Coast international.
