According to Record via Sport Witness, Viktor Gyokeres has given an ultimatum to Sporting CP president Frederico Varandas to let him join Arsenal. The Swedish striker was reportedly involved in a phone call with the supremo of the Portuguese side, wherein he expressed he seeks a departure from the club with suggestions that he may not arrive back to training.
The Viktor Gyokeres saga rumbled on in the background as the Portuguese media brought in a new twist to the tale. As a recap, the striker is open to leaving the Portuguese club to seek a move that would change his career. At 27, he may not get as big an opportunity as Arsenal, with the Premier League giants keen to wrap up a deal.
A few weeks earlier claims from Portugal stated that Sporting president Frederico Varandas may have gone back on his ‘Gentleman’s Agreement’ with Gyoeres to let him leave for a fee of €60 million plus €10 million. Arsenal have so far made an unofficial offer worth €55 million plus €10 million, while Sporting CP are reportedly demanding around €80 million which has irked the Swedish star.
Gyokeres has been dreaming of joining Arsenal and it appears sporting director Andrea Berta is in talks with his camp as well as Sporting CP to find an agreement. The Gunners are also simultaneously in conversation for RB Leipzig striker Bejmain Sesko, with one of those expected to arrive.
Mikel Arteta wants to take Gyokleres for the pre-season tour of Asia, as he has urged Berta to get a deal in place at the earliest. However, there’s no new movement on Sporting CP’s side, as Gyokeres has now taken the next step to push for a move, which may come to benefit the Gunners.
The main story here is about Gyokeres’ phone call to Varandas, where he explicitly expressed his desire to join Arsenal at all costs. He also reportedly stated a desire not to return to the club and take part in training that begins one week from now. There were stories that the 27-year-old goal machine was open to forcing for an exit, and that may have happened now.
The report also goes on to state that should Gyokeres fail to achieve a move to Arsenal he will never forgive those in charge of Sporting CP and part of this debacle. The latest move from the 27-year-old goal machine and his camp could potentially force the issue in Arsenal’s favour, as the Gunners are now primed to sign the striker or at least make a sizeable offer to find an agreement with the Portuguese club.
