According to Football Insider, Doncaster Rovers are engaged in advanced talks with Tottenham for Damola Ajayi. The 19-year-old whizkid has excelled in his development through the youth ranks, as the newly promoted League One side are set to give him his first real taste of regular first-team football.
Damola Ajayi may not be a familiar name for those outside the realms of Tottenham. However, at the north London side, the 19-year-old whizkid is quite a well-known character, who has made more than 80 appearances for the youth sides before making his first team debut under former manager Ange Postecoglou.
The Australian boss handed the 19-year-old whizkid his debut in the final Europa League group phase game against Elfsborg. He scored in his nine-minute cameo, but never got another chance barring a few appearances on the bench including in the Europa League Final.
While he has excelled a youth levels, Ajayi is yet to get a consistent taste of first-team action. Spurs are now open to the prospect of sending him out on his first loan spell, having already extended his deal until 2028. There’s plenty of time for the versatile attacker to make his mark for Tottenham in the future, but for now, he needs regular action in a first-team elsewhere to learn the trade.
Newly promoted League One side Doncaster Rovers are in advanced talks with Tottenham to take the player on loan. The 19-year-old whizkid is expected to become a key part of their first-team plans for the upcoming season and gain valuable experience ahead of a possible breakthrough into the Spurs’ first-team plans under new manager Thomas Frank.
Tottenham are already in the process of building a young project, as they are eager to give their promising young stars a chance to play regular senior football, either at the club or elsewhere. The success of Jamie Donley in League One last season has made Spurs think about integrating him into their first-team plans ahead of the new season, which will give players like Ajayi a massive confidence boost.
Elsewhere, Tottenham are also planning on strengthening their attacking setup with players like Antoine Semenyo, although they are also targetting young talents that help them in the near future. They are also focused on other positions, as the recent agreement to bring 20-year-old Japanese defender Kota Takai shows their intentions towards building the young project.
