According to Fichajes, Yangel Herrera is emerging to be a big target for Newcastle United ahead of the summer. Eddie Howe wants fresh firepower in his midfield setup as the Magpies could be preparing to make a €25 million bid to test Girona’s resolve on the Venezuelan midfielder.
Yange Herrera has proved himself as an able midfielder in La Liga over the last few years, with the Venezuelan coming at the back of his best campaign in Spain so far. He has spent time with several clubs thereafter he was brought by Manchester City from Atletico Venezuela in 2017.
Herrera has been excelling in Spain as a creator, and in central midfield as well as having a presence in all boxes. Newcastle United were credited with an interest, as Eddie Howe wants to strengthen the midfield department ahead of the summer in anticipation of Champions League football next season.
The Magpies are not alone in the chase, as Atletico Madrid and Nottingham Forest are also in the mix for the 27-year-old South American midfielder. Should Newcastle United confirm their place in next season’s Champions League they could get a favourable look by the midfielder.
The Magpies are prepared to make a €25 million bid to test Girona’s resolve on the player, who will have two years left on his deal heading into the summer. Hence, the timing could favour Newcastle United in their bid to land the 27-year-old South American midfielder, as the offer might be considered by the Spanish side.
Herrera is not the only name on Newcastle United’s midfield shortlist, as Howe is eager to land one of many in the market. Matteo Guendouzi is a big target for the Magpies, as he could leave Lazio for a favourable offer in the summer.
While Howe wants to add a new star in the position, they are also keen to hold on to their key men in the squad playing in midfield. Sandro Tonali is expected to stay, while they are confident of keeping star midfielder Bruno Guimaraes beyond the summer, as the Magpies could be set for a big summer window ahead.
