Leeds United are keen on acquiring the services of Joe Gomez as they look to reinforce their backline ahead of next season. Daniel Farke is looking for Premier League experience, and the Liverpool centre-back could prove to be a great addition to their squad.
But, according to a report from Football Insider, the Yorkshire-based outfit have suffered a blow in their pursuit, as Gomez is not keen on leaving Liverpool. The Englishman is quite content at the Merseyside club, and he has no plans to switch clubs at this stage.
Joe Gomez made a name for himself while playing for Charlton Athletic. On the back of his impressive rise, the Merseyside outfit signed him in the summer of 2015. Over the years, the versatile defender has been an important member of their squad, and he has featured in a total of 241 matches for them.
However, the 2024/25 season did not really go according to plan for him as he could only feature in 17 fixtures and racked up just 874 minutes of first-team action. He spent the entire second half of the season on the sidelines because of a hamstring injury.
Despite his recent injury struggles, there is still a lot of interest in Joe Gomez’s services. Leeds United are one of the clubs that are keen on signing the 28-year-old defender as they prepare for their return to the English top flight.
Farke needs a Premier League-experienced defender to help bolster his backline. The Leeds United manager believes Gomez’s experience and his ability to feature across the backline could come in handy. With just two years left on his deal, they could certainly try their luck.
But, the report suggests the Whites are unlikely to convince him about a move away from the Merseyside club. The Englishman is happy at Liverpool and wants to continue there for the time being. His versatility makes him a very important member of Slot’s squad.
With Jarell Quansah expected to join Bayer Leverkusen this summer, the 28-year-old could still have an important role to play under Arne Slot. While Liverpool are actively searching for a world-class replacement, Gomez remains a valued part of the Dutch manager’s plans.
