According to a report by Give Me Sport, Anthony Elanga is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit in the summer transfer window by signing a wide attacker. So, the Nottingham Forest winger has emerged as a target for the Tyneside outfit.
However, the Tricky Trees want a similar amount that Bryan Mbeumo will fetch Brentford when they sell the Cameroonian international to Manchester United. So, that has become a stumbling block for Newcastle United, as the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules pose an issue for the Magpies.
Anthony Elanga has resurrected his stuttering career since joining Nottingham Forest from Manchester United in July 2023. A native of Hyllie, the Swede began his youth career in his homeland, passing through the academies at IF Elfsborg and Malmo FF before moving to England in 2014. He joined Manchester United in 2015 before rising through the ranks at the Premier League club.
The 23-year-old broke into the first-team squad at Manchester United but could not establish himself as a regular. However, he has come leaps and bounds at Nottingham Forest. The Swedish international contributed to 18 goals in 43 appearances across all competitions in the 2024/25 season, finding the back of the net six times and providing 12 assists.
Anthony Elanga has piqued the attention of several high-profile Premier League clubs with his exploits for Nottingham Forest. Newcastle United will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window as they aim to belatedly replace Miguel Almiron after selling him to Atlanta United in January.
So, the former Manchester United winger is a viable target for Newcastle United. However, Nottingham Forest will demand a hefty fee to part ways with the 23-year-old Swede, similar to the price Brentford will Bryan Mbeumo for to Manchester United in the summer transfer window. That has left Newcastle United in a spot of bother.
The Magpies were also keen on signing Elanga from Nottingham Forest last summer before the deal failed to see the light of day. Nottingham Forest’s price tag may pose an issue this year, and it will be interesting to see if Newcastle United can land the Swedish international.
